VXI Technology, Inc. has recently introduced their EX1048 Precision Thermocouple Instrument, the latest addition to their data acquisition product family. Key design goals of modularity, computer independence, and open-platform functionality were achieved by leveraging the advantages of the emerging LXI (LAN Extensions for Instrumentation) Standard. The result is an innovative temperature measurement instrument packaged in a compact, standalone configuration. Sample rates of 1000 samples-per-channel are routed through independent signal conditioning paths with software selectable filters to provide the ultimate in flexibility and performance. Complete channel independence ensures data integrity regardless of sample speed or input overload conditions, and solid state signal scanning paths eliminate long-term maintenance costs associated with other implementations. The heart of any truly accurate thermocouple measurement system is the cold junction compensation (CJC) implementation, and emphasis on this key design parameter sets the EX1048 apart from the competition. Multiple precision thermistors are combined with a significant thermal mass and careful parts placement, to provide world class measurement performance. Internal end-to-end self-calibration also distinguishes the EX1048 by providing a means for simple and quick self-calibration, affording the user the convenience of performing this function as often as necessary. Measurement integrity is further enhanced through open thermocouple detection that provides a continual indication of individual channel status, both visually and programmatically.
