Power Conversion Intelligent Motion (PCIM), NUREMBERG, Germany – May 8, 2012 – ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), a leading global supplier of high performance, energy efficient, silicon solutions, today introduced a new series of Field Stop Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) targeted at industrial motor control and consumer products. The NGTB15N120, NGTB20N120 and NGTB25N120 enable high performance power conversion solutions for a wide range of demanding applications, including induction cook tops, rice cookers and other small kitchen appliances.

Increasing energy prices and environmental concerns around carbon emissions are continuously driving demand for higher performance power discrete components; especially in high power inductive and inverter applications. These new 1200 volt (V) rated IGBTs utilize deep trench technology and state-of-the-art wafer thinning and processing techniques to enable very low turn-off losses while maintaining a low “ON” state voltage during turn-on, which results in lower switching and conduction losses. These devices are offered with a choice of 15 ampere (A), 20 A and 25 A current ratings and are co-packaged with a very low forward drop and soft-recovery fast rectifier to meet stringent customer requirements for high efficiency while providing a space efficient complete solution.

“ON Semiconductor has been a market leader in delivering high performance and reliable IGBTs to the automotive segment for more than a decade,” said John Trice, senior director and general manager for ON Semiconductor’s Power Discrete Division. “The new 1200 V series of high performance IGBTs leverages our intellectual property and competencies in high voltage trench and wafer processing technologies while providing customers in a broad range of market sectors with a high quality and robust solution for their demanding power applications”.

Packaging & Pricing

The TO-247 packaged Field Stop IGBT devices save board space and are optimized for very low on-state voltage drop and turn-off switching losses. The NGTB15N120IHLWG, NGTB20N120IHLWG, and NGTB25N120IHLWG inductive heating specific IGBTs are priced at $1.50, $1.80, and $2.00 per unit respectively, all in quantities of 2,500. The NGTB15N120LWG, NGTB20N120LWG, and NGTB25N120LWG motor drive specific IGBTs are priced at $1.75, $2.10, and $2.35 respectively, all in quantities of 2,500.

Part 1 defines the communication services to access the CANopen devices from an Ethernet device. Part 2 specifies the ModbusTCP protocols, and part 3 describes a generic "ASCII" protocol.

Nuremberg, 2012-05-03. CiA (CAN in Automation) has published a new version of the CiA 309 series of gateway specifications. Devices compliant to this set of specifications links an Ethernet-based device to one or more CANopen networks. Part 1 defines the communication services to access the CANopen devices from an Ethernet device. Part 2 specifies the ModbusTCP protocols, and part 3 describes a generic “ASCII” protocol. The set of CiA 309 specifications have been updated. Besides error corrections and editorial improvements, some additional CANopen services have been introduced. In particular, the LSS services as specified in CiA 305 have been added. Other new services include the configuration of TPDO attributes such as event-timer and inhibit-time. “The services defined in CiA 309 are suitable for all CANopen-to-Ethernet gateways,” explained Holger Zeltwanger, CiA’s Managing Director. “For example, it is mandatory for connecting off-shore platform control systems with the CiA 443 subsea trees.” Similar gateways are used for package distribution systems and many other applications with Ethernet backboned CANopen networks.

Nuremberg, 2012-05-03. CiA (CAN in Automation) has published the CiA 303 series of CANopen recommendations. Part 1 describes the pin-assignment for different connectors. In addition, this recommendation contains some hints for the CAN network cabling. Part 2 recommends the representation of SI units and prefixes, as they should be used in the CANopen device and application profiles. Part 3 proposes the CANopen LEDs indicating the status of the communication or detected errors. All three parts are free-of-charge downloadable (www.can-cia.org).

CANopen is one of the most used serial communication systems in quite different application fields. Originally developed for embedded machine control, it is also used in commercial vehicles, medical devices, lift control systems, rolling stock, building automation, and control systems for renewable energy.
