Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS) and virtualization-scheme partitioning can be used to help prevent security infractions and work by invoking a separate partition for each application, thus separating applications with varying classification levels and providing users access only to the applications for which they are authorized. And lastly, though perhaps not necessary for all secure applications, Common Criteria certification additionally means the application has gone through rigorous security testing.
